The 1980s in the USA

I’ve only occasionally been bitten by the nostalgia bug. This is not one one of those times. I’m merely writing this down in case my memory ever goes.

Born in the late 1970s, the next decade would impress itself upon me, the way momma bird impresses upon baby bird.

Here are some of the things I remember from the 1980s:

Tennis, skiing, neon
Lifestyles of the rich and famous, Yuppies

Hearing about people’s nostalgia for the 60s and 70s

Cocaine

Big hair

Japan

Crocodile Dundee, the goonies, karate kid

Ferraris and Lamborghinis, mostly on posters

F-16 fighter jets, also on posters

Cold War, gorbechav and Reagan, in that order

The Olympics REALLY MATTERED

Punch-out, mario

Tyson, Bird, Magic

Bo Jackson

Stone washed jeans

Walk-man, Van Halen

VHS and beta

HBO, Rambo, madonna

Stock market crash

Beirut, Lockerbie

Mad Magazine
