The maps of War and Peace (1942)

We’ve had this 1942 edition of War and Peace in our family for quite a long time. It accompanied me to college. And Japan. It’s always felt like a book I ought to read. And at 1361 pages, it’s not a book I’m likely to read. And it was just days ago that I opened the book and saw the amazing color maps of Napoleon’s 1812 invasion of Russia, accompanied by a comparison of Hitler’s foray into Russia in 1941-42…fairly topical stuff for the English translation of a book first published in 1869.

This book is labeled “The Inner Sanctum Edition“. Fair enough.
